Toronto, Canada, November 5, 2015 –Performing Dance Arts (www.PerformingDanceArts.ca), Toronto’s leading dance studio for children of all skill levels, is weighing in on Robert Hynes, the “Dancing Mountie.”

Lori Hynes has posted videos on YouTube of her husband, Alberta RCMP Constable Robert Hynes, dancing with their son and daughter in their home after school. The kids have had a difficult time adjusting to their new school after the family moved because of Mr. Hynes’ job, so the “after school dance parties” are a way to give them “something to look forward to at the end of their school day.” (Source: “Dancing Mountie dad tries to help his kids adjust to new school,” CityNews web site, October 9, 2015; http://www.citynews.ca/2015/10/09/dancing-mountie-dad-tries-to-help-his-kids-adjust-to-new-school/.)

“It’s not everyday that a feel-good story like this one comes along, especially one that shows how much so many parents truly care about their children,” says Ashley Daychak, Creative Director at Performing Arts. “It’s not surprising that this couple chose dance as a means of engaging their children, given the power of dance.”

The first video shows Constable Hynes jumping into a dance-off with his son to the popular hip hop song “What Me (Whip/NaeNae)”, which itself incorporates dance moves. The second video shows the family dancing to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”

Besides the psychological benefits that dance is showing in instances such as Hynes’, there are physical advantages as well. Daychak points out that there is a freedom that comes with dancing. It helps people break away from whatever burden is holding them down and, for those few moments, just let go and let loose.

“Constable Hynes admitted he developed his dance moves in high school, where they developed their own choreography for production every year,” Daychak concludes. “And now, such opportunities to learn are available through locations such as Performing Dance Arts. Whether a child wants to be competitive or just have fun, there is a place for them at Performing Dance Arts.”
